Daniel Klinkhammer - Board Member
Dan Klinkhammer co-founded the MYAS in 1991 and he served as the Executive Director from 1994 to 2019. Dan’s previous work experience includes: Youth Director for the Winona YMCA; Community Services Director for the City of Pipestone, MN; City Recreation Director for Winona, MN; and Program Director for the Minnesota Sports Federation. Over the past 28 years, his leadership has transformed the MYAS from a fledgling 3-person operation into the largest statewide youth sports organization in the nation with over 150,000 participants annually. In 2013, he created the Wisconsin Sports Services and in 2015, he was the visionary behind the creation of Trusted Coaches. In 2017, Dan began the process of creating Trusted Officials. His focus has always been to conduct a variety of quality sporting events for Minnesota and Wisconsin youth sport participants AND to provide educational and administrative services to the thousands of parent volunteer organizations that we serve. He has always attributed his success and understanding of youth sports to the fact that he was an athlete, a coach, a parent, an official, and a program administrator. He also recognizes the fact that he was blessed to be surrounded by a very talented and dedicated staff along with an unselfish and like-minded Board of Directors. Dan retired in the spring of 2019 but continues to serve as a volunteer on the MYAS Board of Directors. When not volunteering his time for some worthy cause, he spends his days chasing turkeys, deer, walleyes and golf balls!
Michael L. DeWane – President
Mike has served as President of the MYAS since 1994 and was a volunteer youth coach and youth sports administrator for almost two decades. He primarily focuses on the “Child Development through Youth Sports” education and risk management services including training programs for coaches, parents, players and youth sports administrators. In addition, Mike currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Sports Alliance of Minnesota. His other professional experience includes serving as CEO of the Rx2000 Institute, which helps healthcare providers, payers and government agencies collaboratively work together to improve the business of healthcare, and as senior executive for two biomedical firms and a healthcare education company. Mike did his undergraduate work at Holy Cross (Worcester, MA) and graduate work at the University of Minnesota.
Alexander Rowell Jr. - Treasurer
Alex worked as a medical sales executive for the last 30 years of his professional career. Prior to that, he was a teacher and coach at Minneapolis North High School, Gustavus Adolphus and at Luther College. Alex also was a first round draft choice of the Minnesota Twins and played professional baseball for two years in their organization. He played basketball and baseball in college and was all-conference all four years in both sports as well as All-American in baseball and All-American district in basketball. He has a B.A. from Luther College and an M.S. from Minnesota State, Mankato. Alex has served on a number of local boards, including the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission for over 20 years. He is currently Chairman of the Commission. He has been married to Saundra for 45 years and have 2 sons.
Kathryn Hipp Carlson – Secretary
Kathryn Hipp Carlson is repeatedly selected as a SuperLawyer by her peers and Minnesota Law & Politics. In fact, she has been named as a top 40 workers’ compensation attorney. Kathy is also a frequent author and lecturer at workers’ compensation Continuing Legal Education seminars. Her memberships include: Minnesota State Bar Association, Minnesota Women Lawyers and the Hennepin County Bar Association (Speaker and/or Chair of Continuing Legal Education Seminars). She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota and then became an honors graduate from the University of Minnesota Law School. Kathryn and her attorney husband, Jeff Carlson, (lawyers in love) have a child that participates in MYAS events.
Tom Kuykendall – Board Member
Kuykendall graduated from the University of Minnesota and has worked in the financial services industry for 24 years. He currently serves as Associate Vice President, Twin Cities Advisor Development for North Star Resource Group in Minneapolis. Kuykendall has been extremely active in Minnesota youth sports for 30 years, volunteering as both a youth coach and youth sports administrator. He served as the president of St. Anthony Youth Basketball Association for over a decade and also as the president of the St. Anthony Sports Boosters. Kuykendall resides in St. Anthony with his wife and three children, Mason, Makaela and Tommy.
Dara Northfield – Board Member
Dara began her professional career as a Realtor. Soon after she went into partnership in private industry and returned to school to acquire her accounting degree. Dara was hired as the MYAS accountant in 1998. Dara officially joined the MYAS Board of Directors as the Chief Financial Officer in 2014.Dara has participated in all aspects of the MYAS daily operations including working at seeding meetings and being a tournament director. Understanding the inner workings of entire organization allows Dara to have a detailed understanding of the MYAS mission and function. Dara has raised 3 children in athletics and her husband is a High School Basketball Official. Athletics are a large contributor to her children’s personal success, so Dara is excited to pay it forward by sitting on the MYAS board of directors.
Jonathan Yuhas – Board Member
Jonathan Yuhas is a Broadcast Meteorologist currently working at KSTP TV in the Twin Cities. Yuhas was born in St.Paul then lived in Chicago and moved to Edina in the late 70s and graduated from Edina High School then went on to the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks with studies in Aviation and Meteorology. Yuhas earned his Private Pilot License while at the University of North Dakota in 1991. Yuhas had his first Broadcast Meteorology job in 1992 at KEYC CBS TV in Mankato, MN then moved on to Stations KAAL ABC TV Austin/Rochester, KCRA NBC TV Sacramento,CA., KARE NBC TV the Twin Cities and now KSTP ABCT TV since 2011. Yuhas has a side Weather Consulting Company called FlashWarn that Forecasts, Trains and Consults businesses and organizations about Severe Weather. Yuhas has been forecasting Weather for MYAS Gopher State Baseball Games since 2013. Jonathan Yuhas currently lives in Rosemount,MN and has a 20 year old son Max and 17 year old daughter Maggie. Yuhas has completed 25 Marathons since 1985 and was an Edina Police Reserve Officer for 5 years. Yuhas also has chased Tornadoes and other Severe Weather from Minnesota to Texas and New Mexico. Jonathan joined the MYAS Board in September, 2019.
